Message from Navid Nathoo, TKS Co-Founder:

My brother and I started TKS because we wanted to train young people to solve the world’s biggest problems – something we wish we had growing up. We designed in-person experiences because we believed that would provide students with a more impactful learning experience that would change the trajectory of their lives. This is why we are continuing to provide an in-person option this year rather than moving everything online. We deeply care about the student experience.”

COVID Program Strategy 2020-2021

We understand the risks of COVID-19 and the precautions that governments and organizations are taking to reduce the spread of the virus. We’ve researched into best practices globally on how organizations are re-opening, along with understanding the risk factors and probabilities behind the methods of spread. Our team has been monitoring guidance from governments, reviewing scientific research papers to understand the virus, and looking into strategies in countries including Norway, Japan, Singapore, Israel, Denmark, and China.

Unless the government implements restrictions, we plan on running in-person TKS programs similar to previous years with the addition of the precautionary safety measures. After understanding the risks and looking into best practices in various countries, this is our current plan:

  • We will have in-person city programs operating in September 2020.
  • Sessions will be hosted weekly for 3 hours.
  • We will offer the ability to attend any session virtually for students registered in a city program. This option is for those who have symptoms or who might be uncomfortable attending in-person for a particular period of time.
  • Upon arrival to the facility, students will have their temperature checked by their director. If a student’s temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C) or higher, the student will be asked to attend the session virtually.
  • All students will be asked to wash their hands for 30 seconds with soap and water before entering common spaces.
  • We will require everyone to frequently hand sanitize throughout the session. All equipment will be provided by TKS.
  • Students will be separated into small group sizes of 4-6 people during the session when working on problems and having discussions.
  • The room will be thoroughly disinfected prior to the session, along with all materials.
  • We will implement open communication channels between students/parents and the directors to inform of any symptoms so that those students can be supported if they need to stay home.
  • Any food served will be individually packaged.
  • If possible, we will host some sessions outdoors (this is city specific).

In the event of a second wave lockdown, we will host sessions online similar to what we did this year when COVID struck. If this occurs, we believe there is an extremely low probability that it will last throughout the entire program. We are committed to providing an exceptional in-person experience for each city TKS operates in. There are many additional benefits to the in-person program and we will be sure to maximize those benefits in each city.

Our goal has always been to make a difference in the world by helping young people unlock their potential.

Here is what students from the current program say about TKS:

  • It’s been transformative. have an unfair advantage that I’m still very young, and I know that TKS is always there for me. It’s certainly not easy. I’m grateful that TKS gives me opportunities to think about my highest contribution to my future so that when I graduate, I am not just starting on the race to nowhere.” – TKS NYC Student
  • “My experience in TKS has elevated me as a student, researcher, friend, presenter, and overall innovative thinker. There has not been a single moment where I did not love being a part of TKS and enjoy the sessions or activities. TKS and the TKS community make me feel at home in my own skin, where I am not only encouraged to follow my passion and ambition, I am pushed to new limits of creativity, curiosity, and skill.” – TKS Boston Student
  • I loved it!!! I’ve grown new standards for myself and I’m excited about continuing to push myself in the future. Participating in TKS has been one of the best and most influential decisions I’ve made. I’m truly grateful for everything I’ve learned in the program.” – TKS Toronto Student
  • Nothing short of world-changing. My life was completely shifted when TKS taught me that I could change the world by using my age as a propeller to success instead of a limitation.” – TKS Ottawa Student
  • “It has been life-changing and eye-opening, it completely changed my perspective on my life and my future. I still can’t believe that I am doing things that I never thought I could do before!” – TKS Las Vegas Student

We are committed to ensure that this year the experience will be no different from previous years. Our team has prepared to execute a world-class experience for students accepted in TKS for 2020-2021. We understand the global situation and we are prepared to adapt and accommodate. We are looking forward to this upcoming year and training the next generation of innovators!
